Climate Week
This year Climate Week NYC is anticipated to be bigger than ever and is presenting over 400+ events and activities across New York City. It is critical that the decarbonization of freight transport and logistics is high on the agenda for everyone to work together to achieve the goal of halving carbon emissions by 2030 and to be on a path to zero emissions by 2050.
The following events are brought to you by partners CALSTART/Drive to Zero, Accelerating to Zero Coalition, Sustainable Freight Buyers’ Alliance (Smart Freight Centre and CALSTART), Transport Decarbonization Alliance, Climate Group, International Council for Clean Transportation, Berkeley Center for Law, Energy, and Environment, UC Davis Institute for Transportation Studies, and the Government of the Netherlands.
Harnessing collective efforts for electric vehicles in the Global South
Open to the public (streaming available)
Date: September 18, 11.55am - 12.50pm EDT
Road transport is responsible for 15% of CO2 emissions worldwide. As we increase the speed of transport electrification, we must make sure the switch to EVs happens globally and the benefits to air quality and health are distributed equally. Looking to Latin America and India, it’s clear that the switch presents both challenges and opportunities. Collaboration between governments and the private sector will be critical to the Global South’s electrification journey.
In this session, we will explore:
- How are governments and private companies coming together to bridge the divide between North and South?
- What can we learn from pioneering work already taking place across Latin America and India?
- How can we avoid repeating injustices and ensure a just transition to EVs across the globe?

Picking up the pace of electrification in the heavy-duty freight sector
Open to the public (streaming available)
Date: September 18, 1.45pm - 2.40pm EDT
The heavy-duty road freight sector represents 4% of vehicles on the road globally, yet is responsible for 5% of all CO2 emissions. That's greater than the contribution of the aviation and ocean shipping sectors combined, with highly negative consequences for the climate and our health. This session will convene players from across the sector – manufacturers, transport shippers, transport buyers and the public sector – that all have a vital role in the future of clean transport.
In this session, we’ll discuss:
- What are the operational benefits that are being captured by business leaders today?
- How do we identify the outstanding barriers and the regulation that can help to accelerate action?

Roundtable: Accelerating Global Collaboration on Zero Emission Trucks
Invite only – lunch included
Date: September 19, 10:00am – 2:00pm EDT
Hosted by: Transport Decarbonisation Alliance in partnership with CALSTART/Drive to Zero, the Netherlands, Climate Group, the International Council for Clean Transportation, the Berkeley Center for Law, Energy, and Environment, and the UC Davis Institute for Transportation Studies.
An invite-only roundtable with policy-makers, experts, and industry stakeholders from around the world on how to navigate stakeholder perspectives on zero-emission truck (ZET) regulations. The event will convene a wide range of the ZET ecosystem – local, national, and regional government, private fleets and trucking associations, labor, manufacturing and supply chain, researchers, civil society, community activists, and NGOs. At this interactive working session, attendees will:
- Build relationships to enable effective ZET regulation. Connect with experts and peers from government, companies, research, and NGOs to learn about best practices and the newest information related to the successful deployment of ZETs
- Identify the top areas of focus for a forthcoming ZET Guidebook. The discussions of this session will highlight the top questions/challenges and best answers/solutions by focus area. These priorities will be built out into an easy-to-reference Guidebook (tentatively to be released at COP) which synthesizes current research and best practice into topline messages for high-level policymakers and stakeholders

Accelerating to a Zero-Emission Transportation Sector
Open to the public (register here)
Date: September 19, 3-5 pm EDT
Hosted by: Accelerating to Zero Coalition.
Signatories to the Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) Declaration signed on to the global pledge to ensure that all new car and van sales be zero emission by 2040 globally, and by 2035 in leading markets. This level of ambition is critical to avoiding the worst impacts from climate change and will help tackle air pollution, reduce oil dependency, and deliver new jobs. This session will showcase current progress of ZEV Declaration signatories in reaching this ambitious target and further discuss the importance of a zero-emission transportation sector. Featured senior leaders from across the eight distinct signatory categories will share key insights from their ZEV transitions, including lessons learned and their vision for the future. During this session, we will:
- Announce new signatories to the ZEV Declaration
- Feature an industry-leading announcement from a major automotive manufacturer
- Learn about key ZEV transition insights via an interactive panel discussion
