Book and Claim Dinner - "Collaborative Community Table"

Date & Time: September 23, 5:30-8:30 pm EST

Location: Bryant Park (exact location TBC upon registration)

Organized by: the Book and Claim Community Secretariat (SFC & RMI)

Register your interest via email: Secretariat@BookandClaimCommunity.org (We have reserved a few 'seats' for SFC members at this event).

It’s time to jumpstart transportation decarbonization by widening access to low emission transportation solutions and closing the gaps between us and a low carbon, prosperous future. A robust book and claim chain of custody approach is one tool to get us there.

The Book and Claim Community Secretariat is hosting a private, collaborative dinner on Monday evening, September 23, and has saved a few spots for Community and newsletter participants (sign up for the newsletter here). If you’re interested in joining us, please send a note to Secretariat@BookandClaimCommunity.org with your name + organization, and we’ll add you to the attendee list (or the waitlist, depending on interest).

Green Markets Day at New York Climate Week

Date and time: September 24, time 2:00pm - 7.00pm EST

Organized by: Bezos Earth Fund, Center for Green Market Activation, H2Global, J.P. Morgan, Mission Possible Partnership, RMI

Register your interest here.

Part of this day will highlight progress towards the development of a first-of-its-kind, scalable procurement model focused on getting zero-emission heavy-duty trucks on the road.

GMA Trucking is a demand aggregation buyers alliance under the GMA umbrella that aims to accelerate the path to a decarbonized trucking sector by driving investment in and adoption of ZE-HDTs. GMA has partnered with the Smart Freight Centre (SFC) on this initiative to provide additional expertise on road decarbonization.

Road to Action – Towards Accelerated Truck Electrification

Date and time: September 25, 9:00am-12:00pm EST

Location: Amazon HQ - JFK27

Organized by: Amazon, Smart Freight Centre & CALSTART

Register your interest here.

Join us for an interactive session on truck electrification and its benefits as one of the most effective strategies in road freight decarbonization. Together with industry frontrunners such as Amazon, PepsiCo, and Microsoft, as well as government leaders such as the California Air Resources Board, this session will dive into engaging discussions on aggregated demand, policy, infrastructure, and real-world corridor deployments. Join us if you are interested in learning and discussing the following topics:

  • How shipper aggregated demand can help compliance with policy targets, how shippers can impact and support policy development, and how strong policies can support shipper efforts in meeting logistics emission reduction targets through truck electrification.

  • How fast we should anticipate the scale up of charging infrastructure for long-distance heavy-duty trucks, how shippers and carriers can support an accelerated timeline for charging infrastructure deployment, and what the role of government regulations is to accelerate charging infrastructure for long-distance heavy-duty trucks.

  • The latest lessons from real-world long-distance electric truck projects in the U.S., how those lessons can accelerate other zero-emission freight corridors, how these projects can contribute to a full market transformation towards zero-emission trucks, and how to leverage collaboration between industry and government to launch, scale up, and replicate these projects.

Collective for Clean Transport Finance 2024 C-Level and Investor’s Roundtable

Attendance allowed by invitation only.

Date and time: September 25, 13:00 - 14:30 EST

Location: Bank of America HQ

Organized by: WBCSD and SMI, supported by Bloomberg and SFC

The roundtable will convene high-level public officials, corporate chief executive officers, and finance leaders who aspire to accelerate the adoption of clean transport technologies and infrastructure and familiarize themselves with investment opportunities in green road freight corridors in elected geographies.

BNEF Global Energy & Industry Event

Date and time: September 26, 9:00 - 12:00 EST

Location: 731 Lexington Avenue

Organized by: Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Smart Freight Centre

Register your interest here.

This event will discuss the future of US energy policy and pathways to decarbonization. At this event, the Bloomberg /SFC report on zero-emission trucking as asset class will be launched and presented.

While zero emission truck application offers many benefits, uptake and investments are relatively low. Zero emission trucks are seen as a new asset class with which many investors seem partly unfamiliar also due to the lack of real time use data and experience.

This session aims to enhance the understanding of zero emission trucking as a solid asset class enabling a more solid understanding as a basis for a consideration of a stronger and scaled up engagement in specific opportunities for zero emission truck investment.

Enabling the Transport Transition Using Insurance

Date and time: September 26, 3:45 – 5:15 PM

Location: ET | BCG Office

Organized by: Smart Freight Centre, Howden & CCT and hosted by BCG

This session is open to the public and registration is encouraged. Register here.

The Breakthrough Agenda requires 85-100% of new car sales, 60% of new truck sales to be zero- emission vehicles (ZEV) by 2030 to achieve the breakthrough that society needs. However a number of barriers hamper that uptake at scale: High capital costs and perceived risks, such as uncertainty around battery performance, residual value, and charging infrastructure, hinder widespread adoption. To date, the enabling power of insurance, which is a critical part of finance, has largely been overlooked in lowering capital cost and (perceived) risk; financing the transition; and in giving confidence to purchasers of clean-technologies. This session will demonstrate and explore a range of ways that insurance can help accelerate this transition and begin a collaboration to help enable this, including identification of priority use cases with real deal pipelines – and portfolios of bankable project actions – that will enable material additional acceleration of this transition in areas where insurance enabling will help society most.
