Announcement! Smart Freight Centre joins the Getting to Zero Coalition
21 January 2020 - Smart Freight Centre joins the Getting to Zero Coalition, working to accelerate maritime shipping's decarbonization with the development and deployment of commercially viable deep sea zero emission vessels by 2030.
Smart Freight Centre (SFC) has joined the Getting to Zero Coalition – a global alliance working to operate zero-emission vessels on deep-sea trades by 2030. The coalition was launched at the UN Climate Action Summit and is an initiative led by the Global Maritime Forum, Friends of Ocean Action and the World Economic Forum. To date, more than 100 organizations have joined the Coalition and 14 governments have endorsed it. The Coalition is committed to getting commercially viable deep sea zero emission vessels powered by zero emission fuels into operation by 2030 – maritime shipping’s moon-shot ambition.
SFC’s mission is to work with multinational companies to reduce logistics emissions and aim for zero emissions by 2050. The maritime sector is a vital component of international freight transportation. It is important for SFC to have insight and a voice as we work towards our objectives. The momentum generated by the Getting to Zero Coalition since its inception makes it the obvious group to achieve this.
"Working in partnership with The Global Maritime Forum and the Coalition partners will help us achieve harmonization of approaches for calculation, reporting and reduction of GHG emissions between maritime and other transport modes. This will improve transparency and consistency within multimodal global supply chains. It also provides a firm basis for other SFC projects in the maritime sector, linked to Science-Based Target setting and transparent emission reporting."
