Smart Freight Centre ready to accelerate the decarbonization of the freight and logistics industry in India

Delhi, 11 July 2023 - With the official launch of the Smart Freight Centre (SFC) India office, SFC will take concrete steps towards emissions reduction in one of the world’s largest freight markets. This adds to a portfolio of global programs for ocean freight, road freight and airfreight, plus regional office SFC China.

SFC India aims to minimize the climate impact of the freight and logistics sector in India,  recognizing the urgent need to address the projected increase in CO₂ emissions, (400% by 2047). Through collaboration, SFC India’s goals include creating regional communities for action, initially focusing on eco-driving and fuel efficiency measures, expanding to explore investments like vehicle electrification for further emission reduction. Together with leading organizations and experts in the sector, SFC India will quantify freight emissions, identify solutions and build regional capacity, encouraging logistics service providers (LSPs) to adopt the GLEC Framework and participate in capacity-building programs.
