Leading global companies unite to propel electric truck adoption in the United States and Europe and signal demand for more than 60,000 electric heavy duty trucks by 2030

Amsterdam, Netherlands, 20 September 2023: Today at Climate Week NYC, the Fleet Electrification Coalition (FEC) was launched by Smart Freight Centre and CALSTART. This launch was underpinned by the announcement of the signalling for demand for more than 60,000 battery-electric heavy-duty trucks in the United States and Europe by 2030. In an effort to accelerate the deployment of electric trucks and facilitate the deployment of essential charging infrastructure, Smart Freight Centre’s Sustainable Freight Buyers Alliance and CALSTART have kickstarted the Fleet Electrification Coalition. The members of the coalition have agreed to work together to establish favorable market conditions for the deployment of battery-electric heavy-duty trucks.

Smart Freight Centre China released the first comprehensive assessment report on zero emission freight in China

Beijing, China, 17 August 2023: Smart Freight Centre China published the China Zero Emission Freight Status Report 2022 this August. The Chinese version of the report was formally released during the Zero Emission Freight Initiative Annual Meeting 2023 on March 21st, reviewing the policy, technology, infrastructure, and market updates of zero emission freight in China. The report is the first comprehensive assessment report specifically focusing on the development of zero emission freight in China with the "dual carbon" background, filling the research gap in achieving zero emission goals for the freight industry in China.

Goa, India, 20 July 2023: Today, at a G20 and Clean Energy Ministerial side event in Goa, prominent manufacturing companies and logistics service providers jointly expressed an ambitious demand for 7700 electric freight vehicles by 2030. This was announced during NITI Aayog’s e-FAST (Electric Freight Accelerator for Sustainable Transport) initiative’s event, to advance the electrification of the truck market in India.

Smart Freight Centre and ECG issue the first harmonized methodology, in line with ISO 14083, to calculate Ro-Ro GHG emissions. The methodology is the result of a project where Ro-Ro operators co-operated for 6 months led by Smart Freight Centre. This is part of a wider multimodal project to harmonize emissions accounting from automotive supply chains led by ECG and VDA.
